Aims & Scope

REID (Research and Evaluation in Education) publishes high-quality research manuscripts of assessment, evaluation, and methodological studies in varied educational settings and disciplines with their own particular phenomena, as well as relevant studies that address issues of current education concern. The journal discusses scientific research on how assessment and evaluation can improve educational outcomes and research on how different disciplines can inform theoretical, practical, and political perspectives at different educational levels and systems.

The journal particularly covers manuscripts within the following areas:

  • Performance Assessment
Manuscripts in this area cover the evaluation of processes, systems, individuals, or organizations to determine their efficiency, effectiveness, and outcomes. We welcome research that explores new frameworks, metrics, and methodologies for assessing performance across various sectors, including education and its processes.

  • Instrument Development
This category focuses on developing, validating, and estimating items’ characteristics and their score interpretation of measurement instruments such as surveys, tests, scales, and diagnostic tools. Contributions may include novel approaches to designing instruments that accurately collect data, enhance validity, reliability, measurement models, and are adaptable to various contexts or populations, especially in educational contexts.

  • Policy Analysis
Submissions in this field should provide critical analysis of policies or propose new policies based on empirical data. Studies may include the examination of policy impacts, policy design, or the application of analytical methods to evaluate the consequences and effectiveness of public, social, or economic policies.

  • Program Evaluation
Manuscripts should explore program evaluation methodologies and case studies related to the systematic evaluation models, whether in public, private, or nonprofit sectors. This includes evaluation of program design, implementation, outcomes, and cost-effectiveness, with a focus on informing future program improvement and decision-making in education.

  • Testing Management
This area covers the operational and strategic aspects of testing, from test design and administration to the interpretation and application of test results. Studies may address challenges related to testing processes in educational, psychological, or professional settings, as well as innovations in testing procedures, quality control, and test security.

  • Research Methodology Development
We invite papers introducing novel research designs, analytical techniques, or methodological approaches. Manuscripts should contribute to the advancement of research methodologies that enhance the rigor, accuracy, and applicability of empirical investigations across disciplines, using many approaches such as quantitative, qualitative, and also mixed methods in education.

  • Measurement Theory and Its Development
Manuscripts in this area should delve into the theoretical underpinnings of measurement, addressing issues such as scaling, reliability, validity, and construct development. Contributions may also explore advancements in classical test theory, item response theory, or other measurement frameworks that push the boundaries of how we quantify and interpret data. We also receive papers about simulation study to develop new measurement theory, such as many models in item response theory and its applications in education.
